This book discusses cars of the future and the new socio-economic paradigm that they represent. It examines the electromobility revolution in the traditional automotive industry and brings together multidisciplinary expertise to provide insights into the shift towards electromobility. New vehicular technologies may develop in various directions, including the smart car, and this context raises two important questions: will car manufactures maintain control over the industry? And if so, will they be able to come up with sufficiently radical innovations to steer us into the electromobility of tomorrow? One thing is certain: the transition to electromobility will be a revolution. The book’s combined approach to understanding this complex reality enables readers to better visualize the possible future directions. It offers anyone interested in electromobility an excellent review of the subject and a useful roadmap to future developments.

Prepared by a group of international researchers, experts and practitioners under the auspices of SAP’s Digital Thought Leadership & Enablement team within SAP’s Business Transformation Services (BTS) unit, the book furthermore presents relevant use cases in digital transformation and innovation. The book argues that breakthrough technologies have matured and hit scale together, enabling five defining trends: hyper-connectivity, supercomputing, cloud computing, a smarter world, and cyber security. It presents in detail how companies are now reimagining their products and services, business models and processes, showcasing how every business today is a digital business. Digitalization, defined as the process of moving to a digital business, is no longer a choice but an imperative for all businesses across all industries and regions. Taking a step toward becoming a digital enterprise is demanding and challenging. The dimensions of customer centricity, leadership and strategy, business models, including offerings (products and services), processes, structure and governance, people and skills, culture, and technology foundation can serve as orientation for digitalization. The articles in this book touch on all dimensions of this digital innovation and transformation framework and offer possible answers to some of the pressing questions that arise when practitioners seek to digitalize their business.

Finance is a necessity for all public or private sector projects. Over the past twenty years, the private sector has increasingly financed projects traditionally considered in the public domain. Under increasing public demand for higher levels of infrastructure services and insufficient public funds, attention has re-focused on private finance for public projects. Changing global trends means more emphasis on infrastructure projects and services procured through concession contracts and its derivatives - Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), Build-Own-Operate-Transfer, PFI and Leasing. Based on the authors' research and practical implementation and management of different financed projects, Financing Infrastructure Projects deals with financial aspects of procurement of various infrastructure projects and commercial aspects of the projects, sources of finance, financial instruments, financial markets and financial engineering techniques.Aimed at individuals and organisations involved in the procurement of projects and in the financial aspects of infrastructure, this title provides engineers, project managers and planners, students and post graduates of courses on construction and project management with sound information on commercial aspects of infrastructure projects.

Marketplace complexity and dynamics create an environment that increases the uncertainty of innovation activities. In this context systematic management of innovation and product management are increasingly important for company success. This book presents the fundamentals of innovation and product management and introduces the reader to a holistic process model with particular focus on innovation and uncertainty. This integrated consideration of innovation management and product innovation within an interdisciplinary approach represents a unique characteristic of this book. The book is designed to address the needs of managers who want a practical but well-researched guide to innovation and product management. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students would also find the chapters in this book particularly useful.

Verbeke provides a new perspective on international business strategy by combining analytical rigour and true managerial insight on the functioning of large multinational enterprises (MNEs). With unique commentary on 48 seminal articles published in the Harvard Business Review, the Sloan Management Review and the California Management Review over the past three decades, Verbeke shows how these can be applied to real businesses engaged in international expansion programmes, especially as they venture into high-distance markets. The second edition has been thoroughly updated and features greater coverage of emerging markets with a new chapter and seven new cases. Suited for advanced undergraduates and graduate courses, students will benefit from updated case studies and improved learning features, including 'management takeaways', key lessons that can be applied to MNEs and a wide range of online resources.

The 'theory of the firm' is a significant part of modern economics. Because it informs strategic choices, it is also highly relevant to business administration in particular. Two dominant streams may be identified in the literature, namely the 'competence' and 'governance' perspectives on the firm. While there has been little direct discussion between the main proponents of these perspectives, both claim that they are reaching for a strategic theory of the firm. Such a theory would not only shed light on the classical questions considered in the theory of the firm (e.g. why firms exist, what determines their boundaries and internal organization), but would also be helpful for informing strategy issues, such as understanding strategic flexibility, strategic options, and the sources of competitive advantage. This volume brings together leading thinkers on competence, governance, and entrepreneurship to advance and stimulate economic strategy research. By pooling and mobilizingintellectual resources of both competence and governance perspectives, the contributions show that an innovative joint venture between these two main perspectives potentially leads to a new avenue of future research on strategic issues such as corporate growth, interfirm cooperation, and corporate entrepreneurship.
