Prior to the outlawing of cannabis in 1937, major pharmaceutical companies produced a wide variety of cannabis-based medicines, but cannabis has actually been used as a medicine for thousands of years. Although it has a long history, the recent discovery (1992) of the body's widespread endocannabinoid system (ECS) has thrust cannabis back into the limelight again as a viable medicine. In 2012 over 2.5 million prescriptions were written for medical marijuana in the United States. CBD and THC are both cannabinoids found in cannabis. However, while THC produces a “high” in the user, CBD does not. And now legal CBD-rich hemp oil is available over-the-counter in all 50 states, without a prescription. It was discovered that the Hemp Family of plants (cannabis, marijuana) is loaded with cannabinoids that stimulate our ECS receptor sites. These sites are found in the brain, organs, glands, connective tissue and immune cells and plays regulatory roles in many physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood and memory. The primary purpose of this system revolves around maintaining balance in the body. Cannabinoids found in all varieties of cannabis work in harmony with the cannabinoids we naturally produce when our system is functioning properly. It is now coming to light that we may very well be “Endocannabinoid Deficient” and supplementing with Cannabidiol, known as CBD, may provide just what we're missing to restore optimum health. The health benefits of cannabidiol (CBD) from natural hemp oil is this book's primary focus. It explores the similarities, differences, uses and benefits of hemp, cannabis and medical marijuana along with the interplay of THC and CBD. Their 480 other components are also discussed, such as terpenoids, flavonoids, enzymes, vitamins, etc. Make no mistake about it, the endocannabinoid system, although newly discovered, is just as important as any other bodily system, like the muscular, cardiac, circulatory or digestive system. The ECS requires its own specialized medicine as found in the Hemp Family of plants, which is also known as cannabis, and which includes all strains of marijuana. Here is a list of conditions known and/or being researched that may be helped by cannabinoid therapeutics and supplementation: Acne ADD/ADHD Addiction AIDS ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Alzheimer's Anorexia Antibiotic Resistance Anxiety Atherosclerosis Arthritis Asthma Autism Bipolar Cancer Colitis/Crohn's Depression Diabetes Endocrine Disorders Epilepsy/Seizure Fibromyalgia Glaucoma Heart Disease Huntington's Inflammation Irritable Bowel Kidney Disease Liver Disease Metabolic Syndrome Migraine Mood Disorders Motion Sickness Multiple Sclerosis Nausea Neurodegeneration Neuropathic Pain Obesity OCD Osteoporosis Parkinson's Prion/Mad Cow Disease PTSD Rheumatism Schizophrenia Sickle Cell Anemia Skin Conditions Sleep Disorders Spinal Cord Injury Stress Stroke/TBI 10% of the proceeds from sales of this book will be donated to the American Cannabis Nurses Association in an effort to bring together nurses, to share, integrate and one day certify nurses in the science of endocannabinoid therapeutics in nursing practice.

Highly Commended - BMA Awards 2007 - "I would certainly reccomend this book to all in Medical Education" Medical education, both for undergraduate and postgraduate students and for those training in their chosen specialty, is currently undergoing great change. In Medical Education: Past, Presant and Future: Handing on Learning, Sir Kenneth Calman puts this change in its proper historical context and also examines the current upheavals and their implications for the future. An ambitious but timely project made readable and specific by the use of a case-based approach - a book of this range and type has not been attempted since the early 20th century Written by a known expert in the field and therefore individualistic - but with a real insider's attributes of being able to discriminate between what does and does not matter - the insider viewpoint - especially of someone so recently involved at the centre of political and educational debate The overall theme of "regulation" covers not just the professionals' viewpoint but also the public's - and therefore covers political influences on the educational and regulatory process

Over the past ten years, a number of cytokines and growth factors have proven to be as effective therapeutics. While these products have certainly established recombinant biologics as a major pharmaceutical growth sector, the continued interest in this class of drugs arises from the fact that today we have a far better understanding of the human immune response, both at a cellular and molecular level. This has resulted in a more methodical characterisation of these factors which has given clinical researchers an opportunity to plan Phase 1 clinical trials that can provide substantial information on the activity of the cytokine in humans. Currently, a great deal of effort is also being channelled into identifying cytokines from the various DNA databases. Our major objective for this book is to profile cytokines that have been recently identified. The therapeutic potential of these cytokines based on their known properties will be discussed by the authors. The main aim of this book is to provide...

Sparks fly when she meets rancher Rob Darcy at a town dance, but when she overhears him insult her, she vows to put the man out of her mind. Rob Darcy is instantly attracted to the vivacious Liza but a lack of social graces and the promise he’s keeping ruin his chances of winning her. Bingley desperately wants a wife and family of his own. Can he trust that Janie returns his feelings? When Janie is injured in a spring storm, she and Liza are sequestered on Nathan’s ranch. The aim of this report is to assess the effectiveness of measures for the prevention of substance abuse drawing on high quality surveys including reviews and meta-analyses. Effectiveness, in this context, means impact in preventing, delaying or reducing children's and young people's consumption of tobacco and alcohol as well as cannabis and other illicit psychoactive substances. The study covers preventive measures that are both behavioral and environmental (i.e. based on consumption environment and context). It presents conclusions about the effectiveness of measures in a range of settings as well as substance-specific conclusions. The conclusions reported are rated according to the strength of the evidence on which they are based. Observations on gender-specific effectiveness, on negative consequences of addiction-prevention measures and on efficiency are also included. In addition, the theoretical background to effective measures is described and assessed.--Publisher's description.
