Myerson introduces, clarifies, and synthesizes the extraordinary advances made in the subject over the past fifteen years, presents an overview of decision theory, and comprehensively reviews the development of the fundamental models: games in extensive form and strategic form, and Bayesian games with incomplete information.

This book features a series of essays on the most important issues regarding food safety and quality law. Consumer health is increasingly connected to food production, localization and free circulation of food products in Europe and worldwide. The global market is ruled by a complex and transnational network of sources of law: international, European, national and regional laws, in addition to private contracts and standards. Food law has been progressively concerned with the common concept of food as a cultural heritage to be defended from fraud, counterfeiting and improper business practices. Food security and quality issues have to be solved in order to meet the expectations of future generations and according to the principle that the current generation is merely the guardian of natural resources. The conviction has been gaining ground that food is a form of biodiversity to be protected both locally and globally.VERA PARISIO is full professor of Administrative Law at the University of Brescia. She is currently teaching Administrative Law, Environmental Law and Administrative Law for Health and Wealth (within the Program "Science and technology for population health and wealth"). She is the author of works on administrative procedure, public services, administrative justice and environmental law. In the field of environmental protection and natural resources management, she has edited La fruizione dell'acqua e del suolo e la protezione dell'ambiente tra diritto interno e principi sovranazionali, Milan, 2010; The Water Supply Service in Europe. Austrian, British, Dutch, Finnish, German and Romanian Experiences, Milan, 2013.

This advanced text introduces the principles of noncooperative game theory -including strategic form games, Nash equilibria, subgame perfection, repeated games, and games ofincomplete information - in a direct and uncomplicated style that will acquaint students with thebroad spectrum of the field while highlighting and explaining what they need to know at any givenpoint. The analytic material is accompanied by many applications, examples, and exercises. The theoryof noncooperative games studies the behavior of agents in any situation where each agent's optimalchoice may depend on a forecast of the opponents' choices. "Noncooperative" refers to choices thatare based on the participant's perceived selfinterest. Although game theory has been applied to manyfields, Fudenberg and Tirole focus on the kinds of game theory that have been most useful in thestudy of economic problems. They also include some applications to political science. The fourteenchapters are grouped in parts that cover static games of complete information, dynamic games ofcomplete information, static games of incomplete information, dynamic games of incompleteinformation, and advanced topics.Drew Fudenberg and Jean Tirole are Professors of Economics atMIT.

In most developing countries, financial services are only available to a minority of the population. The majority have no savings accounts, do not receive credit from formal financial institutions and have no insurance policies. They seldom make or receive payments through financial institutions. The limited use of financial services in developing countries has become an international policy concern. The reason for concern about widespread financial "exclusion" in developing countries is straightforward: access to a well-functioning financial system can economically and socially empower individuals, in particular poor people, allowing them to better integrate into the economy of their countries, actively contribute to their development and protect themselves against economic shocks. The central question asked by this book is how to bring access to these fundamental services to all people in developing countries and thus accelerate their economic development and that of their countries. Inclusive finance - safe savings, appropriately designed loans for poor and low-income households and for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, and appropriate insurance and payments services - can help people help themselves to increase incomes, acquire capital, manage risk and work their way out of poverty.

This book assesses new developments in and reform of China's banking law system following its accession of the WTO. It focuses on the relationship between GATS/WTO national treatment obligations and China's banking law. Tracing the history of national treatment in China, the book compares the treatment of foreign-funded banks with the treatment of Chinese-funded banks and examines the structure and shortcomings of the existing banking law framework in China. Offering suggestions as to how the framework could be restructured and analysing the economic and political bases of an integrated banking law framework, the book argues that reorganization would bring about greater consistency with GATS/WTO national treatment requirements. The book also explores the ambiguous definition of prudential carve-out, the subtle relationship between GATS national treatment and market access based on WTO cases, national treatment clauses in China’s bilateral investment treaties, and special treatment on banking in China’s free trade agreements. This volume is a valuable resource for academics and students as well as professionals and policy-makers working in the field of banking, WTO, Chinese law and foreign trade.

This book consists of contributions exploring from different perspectives the 'images' of the consumer in EU law. The images of the consumer form the foundation for various EU policies, more or less directly oriented towards the goal of consumer protection. The purpose of the volume is to establish what visions of the consumer there are in different contexts of EU law, whether they are consistent, and whether EU law's engagement with consumer-related considerations is sincere or merely instrumental to the achievement of other goals. The chapters discuss how consumers should be protected in EU contract, competition, free movement and trade mark law. They reflect on the limits of the consumer empowerment rationale as the basis for EU consumer policy. The chapters look also at the variety of concerns consumers might have, including the cost of goods and services, access to credit, ethical questions of consumption, the challenges of excessive choice and the possibility to influence the content of regulatory measures, and explore the significance of these issues for the EU's legislative and judicial process.
